Students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, who live in Alagada, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area have lamented how they struggle with high transportation costs and bad roads on a daily basis.

Habeebah Tijani, a student of Mass Communication Department, HND 1, who resides at Alagada, narrated her how hard it has been for her to go to school everyday using the bad road.

According to Tijani, it has been so stressful living at Alagada as a student for over two years, since ND 1.

In her words, the fare is “too high” for students to cope with, adding that she spends N1000 everyday on transport.

She also talked about missing classes some days out of the week due to these constraints.

She said, “I come to school 3 times a week. Most of the time it is because of transportation, and sometimes if I have the money I will go to school all week.”

She therefore urged the management to provide shuttles for the students in the Alagada and Olorunsogo axis, stressing that it would be more affordable at a price of 400 naira to and from school instead of N1000 per day.

Alara Samuel Olamide, another student who stays in Alagada from the department of Architecture, HND 2, also speaks about the issue as it has not been easy for him since HND 1.

“It is always a bike every time, and the cost of transportation is very high, with the minimum being 400 to 500 naira, which means I budget 1000 naira any day I want to go to school,” said Samuel.

Moreover, Samuel also laments the condition of the road and the excessive dust caused by the speed of the bike.

In his words, the dust stains his clothes, prompting him to avoid wearing white clothes to school and by the time he arrives at school, the white clothes would have already been stained.

He added that “taking a bike every day is just like risking my life.”

A Civil Engineering student, Abdulazeez Abdulsomad, in HND 1, also expressed his concerns about using a bike as a means of transportation from Alagada to school, stating that it is quite risky.

Abdulsomod recounted a challenging experience he had on a rainy day when the bike he took fell, causing him to be soaked and his clothes to be stained. As a result, he had to return home and decided not to attend school for the rest of the day.

For this reason, Students are expressing their frustration about the mode of transportation and the associated financial challenges along Alagada axis.

In light of these challenges, students are reaching out to the school for assistance and are appealing to the school management for support in alleviating their burden.
