The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has suspended 19 students of the institution for examination misconduct.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Yemi Ajibola, in an interview with the Press Club MAPOLY, the suspended students participated in the 2022/23 examinations, spanning across various levels and departments of the institution.

Ajibola stated that four of the students were suspended for two semesters, while 15 were suspended for four semesters, and two students were issued warning letters for examination misconduct.

He said, “For the first semester of the 2022/23 session, 19 students were suspended following their appearance before the examination misconduct committee and presentation of their cases.

“Four of them have been suspended for two semesters, while fifteen are suspended for four semester, and the two other students were issued warning letters.”

Ajibola disclosed that the rate of examination misconduct at MAPOLY has drastically reduced compared to before, indicating improvement in institutional standards and students’ focus on their studies.

“One thing I want to say about this is that if you look at the trend, I would say the numbers are decreasing compared to before. We used to have a high number of students involved in examination misconduct, but this time it’s just 21 students.

He believed the institution has sustained the momentum of educating students to steer clear of any form of examination misconduct.

“I believe we have sustained the momentum of equipping them with reasons to avoid examination malpractice.

“MAPOLY implemented CCTV surveillance in our examination halls at one point, yet we still have students committing examination misconduct. However, the incidents are decreasing.”

Ajibola mentioned that management implemented different strategies to combat examination misconduct in the institution, emphasizing student sensitization campaigns to discourage engagement in examination malpractice.

“Furthermore, MAPOLY now ensures that once you are caught, you face the misconduct committee panel and the consequences based on the outcome.”

He urged students to stay focused, be serious, understand why they are here, and refrain from examination malpractice especially since the first semester examination for the 2023/2024 academic session is fast approaching.
