A sudden strike has begun in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta Ogun, resulting to the immediate seizure of lectures across all departments in the institution.

The strike, which is yet to be publicized by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP, MAPOLY chapter begun on Friday.

As gathered by Press Club MAPOLY, the ASUP went on strike not because of unpaid salaries.

Speaking with the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, he affirmed that the institution is not owing its staff members salaries.

However, further findings have shown that the strike was to demand proper justification of MAPOLY staff members fundamental rights.

According to a credible source, who is also a prominent member of the ASUP, the strike was to facilitate the implementation of the union’s members ‘ fundamental rights.

According to the source, many staff members have been stagnant in the same position for years, without getting promotions.

The source said, “we didn’t say they are owing us, look at your lecturers, they have been in the same position for years.

“Some of them are parents, and some of you have them as your parents, will you be pleased with your parents staying in the same position.”

Therefore, the reason for the strike was to facilitate appropriate implementation of the institution’s staff members fundamental rights.

It has not been confirmed whether the strike is indefinite or not.
