National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun State axis on Saturday revealed that the 2016 convention of the association will hold on February 11th at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

The association revealed this at the pre-convention meeting held at the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa where representatives from different institutions in the state converged.

It should be noted that at the convention ground, elections that will usher-in a new set of executives for the apex students-body will take place.

About six chairmanship aspirants and five other aspirants attended the meeting which was presided over by the incumbent State Chairman, Comrade Dotun Opaleye.

While reeling out the achievements of his administration, Opaleye presented a newly-enacted constitution to the NANS SouthWest co-ordinator, Comrade ‎Ogunsola Okikiola. 

Meanwhile, a 3-man Planning Committee headed by Comrade Amusa Ayodeji was appointed by the chairman to organise and oversee the convention,  after the aspirants had given their manifestos. 

Opaleye said, “aspirants should campaign and win the coming election because we would put every necessary security apparatus in place to ensure a credible election. 

“There will be no imposition of candidates, it is the people that will decide on who leads them in the coming administration.”

In the same vein, JCC Chairman, Lagos State axis, Comrade Samson Moses urged the aspirants to “campaign to win”. He also rated Ogun state high among the committee of states saying Ogun state is  the bedrock of education in country. 

He said, “aspirants should endeavour to campaign to win the coming election devoid of any crisis because this state is the bedrock of education in Nigeria. 

“I am not saying this to flatter anyone because what I have said is the truth and nothing but the truth,” Moses said.

One of the Chairmanship aspirants, Comrade Olawale Balogun said the peaceful pre-convention I sa good foundation for the convention.

“The pre-convention held today (Saturday) at the Igbesa, peacefully devoid of any rancour or fight from any quarter, I believe will hopefully yield a successful convention.

“‎I commend the efforts of the Chairman, Comrade. Dotun Opaleye popularly known as Zamora on his efforts to ensure a peacefully unified convention and he frown at any attempt to factionalise NANS Ogun axis, he also promised to wage war on anybody who tries such.

“I am fully prepared for the convention and I am ready to serve in the interest of Nigerian students. The welfarism of Nigerian students remain my utmost priority,” Balogun said.
