The entire Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta as been thrown into mourning since Sunday following the death of Adebola Ashaolu an HND1 Mass Communication student who died on her way from church service.


The deceased was on her way back from church on Sunday, when she met her untimely death after she was hit by a reckless driver along Japo Adigbe area of Abeokuta.
PRESS CLUB MAPOLY gathered that she was on bike when the reckless driver who was alleged to be a Yahoo boy crushed her head after she fell off the bike she was on.
An eyewitness told PCM that the vehicle crushed her head and she was rushed to a nearby hospital but was rejected as the accident was beyond their control and before she could be taken to another hospital for treatment she gave up the ghost.

“She could have survived but FMC and another hospital closeby rejected her, an eye witness told PCM.

She was said to have been rejected by four different hospitals in Abeokuta, including the Federal Medical Center Idi Aba(FMC), Lantoro hospital, and Hope hospital, only Mercy hospital accepted her in for treatment but she gave up the ghost few minutes after.
Eye witness said “She was on a bike coming back from church, but the car behind them was driving recklessly and the bike man was scared so he wanted to make way for him but unfortunately the girl fall off the bike to the road, and the car crush her head.
“She was rushed to an hospital close to where the accident occurred but they rejected her, before they could carry her to another hospital she give up the ghost”
Stop boarding Okada, Ag Rector Urges students
The Acting Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji has urged the students to stop boarding motorcycle popularly know as Okada.


Odedeji admonished the students in the early hours of Monday at the department of Mass Communication when the management of the department and the students mourned late Ashaolu Debola in the school premises.
The acting rector noted that little patience can save lives and promised that justice will prevail for the deceased.
According to him, “Your life is more important than the 5 minutes you can’t wait to enter taxi, stop boarding Okada because most of them are not competent and they are under several influence when driving.
“We will surely get to the root of the matter, I have spoken to the Chief Justice of Ogun state about this and promised to get justice, I urge you all to be calm and continue praying for the institution” he said
Be strong, death is inevitable- Mass Comm HOD urges

The Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Funmi Alakija has appealed to the students of the department to be strong adding that death is inevitable.
Her words, ” I know it’s not easy but you all just have to be strong, death is inevitable and we should continue to pray that we should not experience untimely death again”


Also, during the interaction with the management,  a student pleaded that Tuesday paper of Higher National Diploma one Students should be postponed.
Reacting to that, the Sub Dean of School of Information, Communication and Technology, Bar. Yinka Razaq confirmed that the exam of logic and critical writing has been shifted till the last day of the exam. 
The exam was earlier slated for Tuesday and the new date is now Wednesday, 24th March.
MAPAITES mourns Adebola, organizes candle night procession
Students from different departments came to honour and give their last respect to Debola as they organized candle night.


The President Elect of the Association of Mass Communication student(AMACOS), Adekunle Sanusi(Babakay) led the students to mourn the deceased and move around the Abeokuta metropolis.


The movement started by 6pm at the deceased house at oluwo mango and moved down to Adigbe down to Panseke with different dirge.


Some of those presented at the Candle night includes; the Deputy Coordinator of  National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) (Southwest) Comrade Oladimeji Usman, Kehinde Akinbode 2020 AMACOS President,  Wisdom Ogbonna 2019 AMACOS President, 2020  Speaker, Olufemi Owoeye former MAPOLY SUG PRO, Idowu Johnson,  Pharmaceutical Technology President elect, Sholola Abayomi Stephen among others. 
Some of the friends of the deceased who spoke with PCM described her as a brilliant and straight forward person.
Speaking with PCM, Mariam Olapade an HND2 Mass Communication said “Debola was nice, brilliant and open minded. She didn’t tolerate insults and disrespect no matter what one’s status is.
“She had her clique. They’re well united and known for thier brilliancy. Last time I saw her was last week Tuesday when we were dragging issues between HND 1 and HND 2 Students. May her soul rest in peace. Ameen”
Also, Risquot Badmus described the news of Adebola’s death as disheartening and a terrible one.
“It’s so terrible and disheartening.I left my house immediately they called me to where her friends were.It’s really a bad news.It was untill I saw her picture from people that went to Mercy hospital before I believed”.
Risquot blamed the Okada rider for leaving the main road without informing the deceased.
“When the okada rider want to make way for th reckless driver coming he ought to have told Debola before turning at all. He just left d main road with all those big stone on the road maybe it was even the stone that block the bike and that cause Adebola to fall off the bike”.
